Warm elegance, exquisite grace, and playful precision are the hallmarks of Tina Sargent's dancing. She is one of the top performers and instructors of Oriental Dance in the Pacific Northwest and is gaining recognition nationally. Her dance style is generally described as classical Egyptian, which is known for its subtle movements and emotional interpretation of the music. While this style of dancing has traditionally been performed in the more intimate setting of parties, nightclubs and restaurants, Tina is also interested in taking the dance to a more expansive, theatrical expression suitable for the concert stage. Her interest in theater performance led her, along with Anita Ross (aka Sabura) and Souzan Seshima to found Middle East Arts International (MEAI), a 501(c) (3) organization for the promotion of excellence in the Middle Eastern performing arts. To date, MEAI has produced events featuring Hossam Ramzy and Serena Ramzy, Maleeha, Tamalyn Dallal, Amir Thaleb, and Aziza, and the organization has many other exciting plans in the works for the new millenium.

Tina began studying oriental dance in 1985 with a variety of instructors in Tucson, AZ. Until moving to Seattle in 1993, she studied mainly with Kathryn Ferguson, an internationally acclaimed dancer and instructor. She has also taken many workshops with some of the top dancers and instructors in the field, including Raqia Hassan, Beate and Horacio, Momo Kadous, Morocco, Amany, Leila Haddad, Amaya, Suhaila Salimpour, Jajouka and Maleeha to name a few. She now performs regularly at 1001 Nights on Capitol Hill as well as at festivals and dance seminars throughout the country (see calendar page for scheduled performances). She also teaches regular classes once a week in downtown Seattle. Tina is available for private parties (family setting only) or other performance venues. She is also available for private lessons and workshops. Please contact her for prices and scheduling. Dance resume sent upon request.

In addition to performing, teaching and producing, Tina owns Centerstage Dance Shop, Seattle's complete dance supply store.
